This made in USA Mercedes camper van is the Metris Getaway. Mercedes is now pushing its small van, the Vito into the US market as a base vehicle for motorhome conversions. The Vito bears the name Metris in the USA and has been adapted to local market and customer requirements. For example, it is only available there with a petrol engine. It has been sold since 2015. You may be wondering what happened to the Weekender. The answer is nothing. It changed its name to the Metris. So instead of sounding like the name of a contraceptive it now sounds like a public transport system. Driverge Vehicle Innovations has teamed up with Mercedes-Benz to launch the Metris Getaway. The campervan is now on sale. Driverge Vehicle Innovations does what they say, they innovate with vehicles and that does not just include campervans which appear to be a small part of their business. Other products are taxis, mobility vehicles, prisoner transport and others. And lets face it. If you were in Ohio, the first thing on your mind would probably be to get out as quickly as possible and what better way to do it than in a campervan? “Vanlife is very popular all over the world - also in its country of origin, the USA. The trend is increasingly going back to campervans that are just as suitable for travel as they are for everyday use, ”said Klaus Rehkugler, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans Sales & Marketing. “In addition to our large van Sprinter, we would like to increasingly meet this demand in the USA with our compact mid-size van Vito. That is why we work with motorhome manufacturers such as Driverge and offer them the Vito as a base vehicle for their bodies and extensions. Practiced in Europe for some time, this positioning is a novelty for us in the USA. " In addition to its efficient four-cylinder petrol engine, the US version of the Vito impresses with maintenance intervals of up to 24,000 km and a permissible tensile load of around 2,250 kg. There are also a large number of safety and assistance systems, including ATTENTION ASSIST® and the ECO start / stop function. Crosswind Assist stabilizes the vehicle and ensures safety in strong gusts of wind. At the same time, the load-adaptive dynamic traction control ESP actively intervenes in the power transmission of the engine and brakes individual wheels or reduces the transmitted torque in order to stabilize the vehicle when the wheels spin. The Metris Getaway, based on the Mercedes-Benz Vito, was produced as standard by Driverge with, the following camping scopes: Additional battery Pop-up roof with sleeping area Multifunctional rear bench seat that can be folded out into a bed When folded, this bench can be moved along a rail, which provides storage space as required Capitains‘ seats Those who want even more “camping flair” can equip the Metris Getaway with an awning, fly screen for the sliding doors as well as the tailgate and a rear tent. Roof racks can also be mounted to transport surfboards or other sports equipment. The highlight is a kitchen solution - a pull-out kitchen can be ordered for the rear of the campervan - and solar panels for as much self-sufficiency as possible. There are also around 200 selectable foils in different colors. But I will tell you what I would rather have than 200 selectable foils. A toilet and a shower. Not an outside one where everyone can see me. Therefore I would suggest that you get a Sprinter based van. I live in a motorhome full time and travel around Europe in it. I spend most of my time in Poland, Germany and Italy. Vanlife is my life. In my YouTube channel, I present reviews of recreational vehicles.
