Lockheed SP2H Neptune flown by NL320SQN between 1962 and 1982. With a compete crew of eleven the flightdeck in front of the wing was rather crowded. Two pilots, flight engineer, two sono operators, Tacco/navigator , radaroperator and ESM operator. Eight total. After a crawl over "the beam" (wing) free movement was possible with only a radio-operator, an ordnance man and an observer. Food was prepared there in the waist on a small stove. All in all a pleasant aircraft to fly in. The large flexible wing provided a rather smooth ride in heavy weather or very low flying operations(100 feet) by day and 300 feet at night. The noise from the big piston engines(18 cylinder/36 spark plugs) was quite impressive. A great aircraft with a powerfull radar with a range of some 200 miles.
