Born and raised in Hong Kong, Jack grew up surrounded by the ocean. His dad was a surfski paddler and helped organize local races that jump-started Jack’s early love for paddling. At just 12 years old, Jack began racing SUP across Asia and North America before jumping into outrigger — and never looking back. It all really took off when his mom started paddling OC1s at the Victoria Recreation Club (VRC) in Hong Kong. Jack joined her on the water and quickly found his passion for outrigger canoe paddling. From there, he decided to shift his focus from SUP to OC1 and continued to chase his goals — moving to Hawai‘i in 2021 to attend the University of Hawai‘i without ever having visited before. When he arrived, he instantly felt part of a community that supported and lifted each other, both in and out of the canoe. Today, Jack is a member of the Outrigger Canoe Club and is in Tahiti with Team Hawaii, preparing to race Hawaiki Nui Va’a, one of the world’s most competitive outrigger races. His biggest influences are his teammates and closest friends — a group that’s insanely competitive but, at the end of the day, all family. One of Jack’s most memorable paddling moments came when he took a huge win at Maui to Molokai. He couldn’t believe it himself at first, but we always knew he could do it. We’re stoked to have Jack on the team and looking forward to more big moments ahead. 🎥 Video: Tiloi Alapa @KauleleHawaii Hit subscribe to follow more stories from the paddling world!
