INDEPENDENCE, Ky. (WKRC) - Police in Northern Kentucky are still looking for Joseph Earl Crail who is facing 1,372 child pornography charges. “His whereabouts are currently unknown, “ said Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders. “Yes, we think he’s taken off. We know that Mr. Crail has some relatives in Texas and we also have some reason to believe he may have gone to California.” Police tried to arrest Crail at his suburban Independence home after obtaining a warrant Tuesday morning, March 21. Independence Police had searched Crail’s home on February 25, and confiscated two phones. They were acting on a tip from investigators who had earlier arrested Muskogee Oklahoma firefighter Zachary Perry on child pornography charges. Perry had more than 1,300 images on his phones and 50 of them were traced to an internet address in Northern Kentucky. “The IP address they tracked the images from in Oklahoma came back to Mr. Crail’s residence in Independence,” Sanders said. Crail’s phones were examined by the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crimes Branch. They found 1,333 photographs of child pornography and 38 child pornographic videos. The photos and videos show very young children with exposed genitals and adults having sex with pre-pubescent children, according to the arrest warrant. It is not clear if Crail was simply collecting and distributing the material or producing it. “We can’t rule it out,” said Sanders. “Part of the investigation has revealed that Mr. Crail did have access to the same age and gender of children that are seen in the evidence. Much of the evidence is homemade. Now we don’t know if it was Mr. Crail making it at home or somebody else that he obtained it from that was making it at home.” The Kentucky State Police say a complete download of Crail’s cell phones will likely provide even more file containing child pornography. Crail is charged with 1,371 counts of possessing matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. He is also charged with count of distributing that material. If convicted, Crail faces up to 20 years in prison. Police are asking for the public’s help in finding Crail.
