For Paul George and Carey OʼSullivan, the bands Producers and long time members, finding different ways to get a dance floor moving has been a career long pursuit. Their second single for their upcoming album ‘Disco Pony’ is no exception. Titled ‘Sufi’ the song writing team took inspiration from the movement of whirling dervishes and the fluid endless rotating movements. “We got really interested in the science of the whirling Dervishʼs skirts, It turns out that the patterns are buffeted by the same force that produces destructive hurricanes.” Says Carey OʼSullivan Dervishes are Sufi Muslims who take a vow of poverty. Their whirling, ritual dance, which dates back to 13th century Persia, has become a tourist attraction in places such as Istanbul in Turkey. “We tried to incorporate the idea of the movement into the track. Carey has been working on an animated clip that uses some of the physics behind how Whirling Dervishes move”
