Today on our 2015 Subaru Legacy, we're going to be taking a look at, and also showing you how, to install the Curt Custom Fit Class Three Trailer Hitch Receiver, offering the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. It's part number is 13390. Here's a good look at what the hitch is going to look like on the vehicle. We've got our side plates and we're going to have our cross tube. It's going to meet here in the middle of our receiver tube. Now, this is a class three hitch, so we've got the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. It makes it very, very versatile. You'll see the reinforcement inaudible 00:00:29 here around the ends. It's going to give it a nice clean look. We've got our safety chain connection points here at the bottom. These are a plate style. As you can see, there's plenty of room in there for whatever size chain you might want to connect. Then here on the side, we'll have our 5/8 diameter pinhole. Now, once using accessories to secure your gear with, you do want to make sure that that's class three rated. Whatever type you decide on, looks like there's going to be plenty of room, whether it's just a standard pin and clip, maybe a locking hitch pin, or even an anti-rattle device. The hitch also offers a very sturdy, heavy duty steel construction, and a black powder coat finish that's going to help it resist corrosion and keep it looking nice on the back of your car for quite a while. When it comes to weight ratings for our hitch, it offers a 600lb tongue weight rating. That would be the maximum downward force that we'd want to put here at the receiver tube opening, and it gives us a 4,000lb gross trailer weight rating. That would be the total weight of our trailer and anything that we we're to load up on it. Of course, you do want to look in the owner's manual on your Legacy, see what it's tow rating is, and use whichever of those numbers are the lowest. A couple measurements that will be helpful for selecting your ball mount, bike rack, or even hitch cargo carrier, will be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening. We've got about 10-1/4 inches. Then from the center of our hitch pinhole, to the outermost edge of our bumper, it's about an inch and 3/4. We would recommend the use of products with a raised shank, just to help promote better ground clearance. In a beginner installation, we're going to need to lower our exhaust on the back of the Legacy here. We've got three hangers that we'll remove to do that. One's going to be just inside of the rear bumper cover. You locate it right here. If we go caddy corner to that, to the opposite side of our exhaust, we'll have our second one. Then if we follow our exhaust forward, once we get in front of the rear differential here, we'll have the third. Before we do take those hangers down, it's a good idea to put a strap right underneath the exhaust here, just to give it some support when we remove those to let it rest on it. You'll then want to use a little bit of spray lubricant on each of the insulators. It just kind of helps them slide off a little easier, and then a large screw driver or a pry bar is usually going to be the most effective strategy if you don't have an exhaust hanger removal tool. Just kind of push out from the back until it pops off just like that. Now if we feed a little slack into our strap, or if we loosen up our wire, that exhaust is going to come down and allow us plenty of room to work. Above the exhaust you'll have one, if it's a single exhaust, two if it's a dual, we're going to have the heat shield. That's secured with four bolts. You want a 10mm socket. We'll take those out and get that heat shield removed. We'll set this aside so we can put it back in later. In our frame rail, this is the passenger side. We just came over here to get the exhaust pan out of the way. You're going to see we've got two rubber plugs on the bottom here. We're going to be pulling these out. This hole will be enlarging to slide our hardware in. This hole in the back, this is going to be our rear attachment point. The forward attachment point we'll be drilling in somewhere in this area. These plugs are going to be the exact same in both sides, so get them pulled out. Here at that forward area where we removed that plug, we're going to be enlarging that. We need it to accommodate the spacer block here, so we can mark the, with that. We're also going to need our bolt to slide up and through.
