I was so proud of myself for getting out of almost six figures in tax and consumer debt and just becoming an overall more responsible and educated person when it came to finance. I still am, and I learn more every day, but these are the mistakes I made when I finally got out of debt and thought I was in the clear. Moral of the story? Start an emergency fund ASAP! Here are the biggest mistakes I made that led me back into debt: 1. I stopped living as frugally and I used my line of credit in place of an emergency fund. 2. I moved abroad (and got deported lol) without understanding the costs and risks. 3. I treated living abroad in Istanbul as a gap year and didn't work as much as I should have to build a safety net. 4. I stopped tracking my expenses on a granular level. 5. I mentally spent my freelance income before it hit my bank account.
