If you want to step up your holiday photo game, I’ll show you my exact camera setup for taking pictures that are bright and detailed. The secret ingredient is using an external flash. With it you can brighten up an entire room, giving you photos that feel more natural compared to the pop-up flash which results in harshly lit subjects and dark backgrounds. If you think an external flash is too complicated or expensive, it isn’t. You can find fantastic third party options under $100 that communicate automatically with your camera. If you can figure out how to attach it to the top of your camera and turn the thing on, you’ll be good to go!
