Supported by United Public Adjusters & Appraisers Inc., this remarkable golf tournament raised funds to support first responders and their families, carrying on the legacy of heroism that emerged from the tragic events of 9/11. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, inspired by the selfless actions of Brooklyn firefighter Stephen Siller, was established to honor the sacrifice and bravery of first responders. Stephen Siller, who was en route to a round of golf after his shift, diverted his course upon learning about the attack on the World Trade Center. Unable to reach the scene through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, he courageously carried his gear on his back and raced through the tunnel to fulfill his duty. Regrettably, Siller was among the 343 firefighters who perished that day, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering devotion. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation's National Golf Series serves as a flagship event to raise funds for firefighters, police officers, veterans injured on the job, and families affected by loss. On May 15, 2023, the Foundation organized an exhilarating Golf Tournament at the beautiful Lake Success Golf Club, offering participants a chance to enjoy a memorable round of golf while contributing to a noble cause. The event featured additional attractions such as a sports memorabilia auction and a raffle for Yankees tickets, adding to the excitement and fundraising efforts. This year's event paid tribute to New York City Detective Dalsh Veve, who displayed exceptional bravery in the line of duty. Detective Veve sustained life-threatening injuries while investigating reports of gunfire in East Flatbush on June 3, 2017. Despite ongoing rehabilitation, he requires around-the-clock care. In recognition of his service and resilience, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the mortgage on his Long Island home in 2020 through their Season of Hope fundraising drive. Under the guidance of event chair John Rafferty, a retired NYPD detective and esteemed Middle Village resident, the Golfing for Heroes event saw tremendous support from United Public Adjusters & Appraisers Inc., Avalon Bay Communities, Inc., Watchguard 24/7, LLC, and the Lefrak Organization, who served as co-sponsors.
