GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY: OLYMPICS VERSION

Having just watched a phenomenal Olympics, I am still in the Olympic spirit! As the 2026 winter games have recently ended, it is time to look forward to the 2028 summer games right here in Los Angeles, California. Former pro and local legend Phil Gaimon got the inside scoop on the presumptive cycling course, link below, and a few things stood out. First, it's absolutely spectacular, starting at the beach, going into the Malibu mountains, and then back to the city and finishing at Griffith Observatory. The majestic mountains on one side, the Hollywood sign on the other, the city sprawled out before you from the skyscrapers of downtown to the ocean, I'm so excited that the world is going to see how incredible the cycling is here! What caught my attention, though, was that the finish approaches Griffith from the right side, which is how we usually come down after ascending on the left side. So of course I had to try it out! Not only that, but to get there, they also take the iconic Mulholland Drive, one of the most scenic roads imaginable, and one of my favorites to ride on, which is why that is what we take to bypass the traffic, then cut down into the city until we reach Griffith. It was so cool taking a new route up to Griffith, and riding on the exact same roads that the best cyclists in the world will be on in a couple years. It's incredible that they'll be taking it after 100+ miles and thousands of feet of climbing, but we do what we can! Getting through a tough climb can always make someone feel like a champion.
