(1 Jul 1995) Eng/French/Nat Princess Stephanie of Monaco has ended four years of speculation by marrying her former bodyguard and the father of their two children on Saturday in a simple civil ceremony amid tight security. Unlike previous royal weddings in the principality, this was a low-key and extremely private occasion. Former pop star and model Stephanie, the youngest daughter of Prince Rainier and the late Princess Grace, is not usually one to shun the limelight. But her wedding was a strictly private affair with just forty guests. Photographers crowding around Monaco's Town Hall had little chance of snapping the traditional wedding portrait and at least two were escorted over the border to France by Monagesque police. No announcements were made by the palace, as is customary with the Grimaldi family. SOUNDBITE: "I think for her it is just a great day without any publicity around I think she wanted it like that." SUPER CAPTION: Onlooker. To ensure that there were no unwelcome guests, security was tight. After the ceremony Stephanie and her new husband, Daniel Ducruet were due to host a dinner for 100 guests on Saturday evening in the exclusive Le Pistou restaurant in Monte Carlo's Loew's hotel. SOUNDBITE: (French) "It's a very important meal for us in the sense that Princess Stephanie is marrying here and it's obviously very important for us to have that honour." SUPER CAPTION:Patrick Estachi, Le Pistou. The couple chose to keep the arrangements within the confines of the tiny principality on France's Mediterranean coast. They bought the wedding ring at a local jewellery shop and the flowers were organised by a florist in the city state. The wedding puts an end to a four-year battle between Stephanie and her father over whether she would marry Ducruet, a former pet shop salesman and fishmonger. According to Monagesque law, a member of the royal family cannot be married without the permission of the sovereign. But despite parental opposition, the couple have been living together in Stephanie's villa about a three-minute walk from the palace. There were no known plans for a honeymoon. The couple have just returned from a holiday in the Canary Islands with their two children Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: Β Β /Β ap_archiveΒ Β Facebook: Β Β /Β aparchivesΒ Β ββ Instagram: Β Β /Β apnewsΒ Β You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
