ARTIST: Graeme Clarke SONG: Ramblin' Fever SONGWRITER/S: Merle Haggard BIO: Arriving in Australia from New Zealand in 1980, Graeme Clarke initially pursued music as a hobby, entertaining audiences around the Newcastle and Sydney areas before deciding to turn professional. His early recording work included the LP Graeme Clarke Sings Your Favourites and the single “Tender Trap,” backed with “Darling on Your Way Out Close the Door.” Extensive touring followed across greater Australia, and during his time based in Brisbane, “Tender Trap” climbed to No. 9 on the Country charts in September 1985. In 1998, after relocating to South Australia, Clarke wrote seven original songs and released the 14-track album Footprints in the Sand at Wallaroo. The album proved extremely popular locally, selling around 1,500 copies and leading to the release of the follow-up album One For the Road, which featured four additional original tracks. He also worked with Vaughn Lofstead at Smoke House Studio in Nashville and collaborated with singer Heather Johnson on a duet covers album titled Boots, Things and Golden Rings. Clarke’s album Hell & Back was recorded in Adelaide, with two tracks recorded and mastered in Nashville. The release achieved strong international success, with several songs reaching No. 1 on European and international country music charts. In 2017, he was voted No. 12 in the Top 200 International Artists, alongside many globally recognised performers. Further accolades followed in subsequent years, including international radio and industry awards in the United States and Europe. During 2025, five of Clarke’s releases featured on the OZ Country Music Top 20 charts, including a Traditional chart entry. Looking ahead to 2026, he plans to remix and re-release “Ramblin Fever” as a single, featuring newly added steel guitar. LYRICS: My hat don't hang on the same nail too long My ears can't stand to hear the same old song An' I don't leave the highway long enough to bog down in the mud 'Cos I've got ramblin' fever in my blood I caught this ramblin' fever long ago When I first heard a lonesome whistle blow If someone said I ever gave a damn, the damn sure told you wrong I've had ramblin' fever all along Ramblin' fever The kind that can't be measured by degrees Ramblin' fever There ain't no kind of cure for my disease There's times I'd like to bed down on a sofa And let some pretty lady rub my back And spend the early morning drinking coffee And talkin' about when I'll be coming back 'Cos I don't let no no woman tie me down And I'll never get too old to get around I want to die along the highway and rot away like some old high-line pole Rest this ramblin' fever in my soul Ramblin' fever The kind that can't be measured by degrees Ramblin' fever There ain't no kind of cure for my disease, yeah
