OTT: Video Tech Brief - Handy Eye Chart

While traditional eye charts are often effective, they rely on verbal communication and at least a rudimentary understanding of the English language. This technology, the "Handy Chart," uses a system of common hand gestures in different orientations that allow these populations to be visually screened. Of particular importance with children, these gestures are easy to mimic. Even in the absence of any verbal communication, a doctor can quickly assess whether or not a patient understands how the exam works. The Handy Chart simplifies vision screening in young, non-verbal, or non-English speaking populations.
