Francesca Albanese, Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, meets the press

On 30 October 2024, following the presentation of her latest report to the ‪@unitednations‬ General Assembly, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, Francesca Albanese, held a press conference at the UN headquarters in New York. The report said that "the violence that Israel has unleashed against the Palestinians post-7 October is not happening in a vacuum, but is part of a long-term intentional, systematic, State-organized forced displacement and replacement of the Palestinians." The Special Rapporteur is part of the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council. Comprising the largest body of independent experts in the UN Human Rights system, Special Procedures refers to the Council's independent fact-finding and monitoring mechanisms that address either specific country situations or thematic issues in all parts of the world. Special Procedures experts work on a voluntary basis; they are not UN staff and do not receive a salary for their work. They are independent from any government or organization and serve in their individual capacity. The Human Rights Council is a subsidiary body of the United Nations General Assembly. #UNGA
