We caught up with Rex Merritt from AFCO to talk about their new 16+ style rotor. It is an .810 and weighs in at 6 pounds. It has directional vanes inside for better cooling. Reduces rotating mass. Available as slotted or flat faced. You can find them in our online store: AFCO 16+ Ultralight Curved Vane Rotor Left Hand Slotted .810 x 11.76 https://crateinsider.com/afco-16-ultr... Tell me a little bit about it. Rex Merritt: Okay. What it is, is a new brake rotor we have. We call it our 16 Plus Rotor, and the nice things about this, is CNC machine balanced. It's an 810 rotor, and it weighs right at six pounds. It's a directional rotor, so the veins in it ... The veins you can see right here, they're directional, and they turn. It's got a lot better cooling, plus the way they're machined inside the rotor, you don't have a cupping issue like you do with some of the others. For a Linden horsepower car, like a crate, or a Linden motor car, it's gonna be great, 'cause it basically takes the rotating mass out of the rear. Interviewer: Great, and what kind of caliper would you recommend using with this? Rex Merritt: You know, we have a new aluminum caliper for the stock mount, like a metric caliper replacement. But, you can run this with a standard steel caliper or, you know, the better aluminum calipers. Either one. You can get it ... This one here is slotted, so it releases the gas off the brake pad, so you don't have a glazing issue as much, but you can get it as a solid rotor as well. Just depending on what your sanctioned body lets you run. Kate: Great, and what kind of cars would these be best for? Rex Merritt: This is actually best ... Well actually it will work on anything that runs an 810 rotor. We were kind of marketing, targeting the modified type cars, but it works great on anything. Like I said, it takes the weight out of it, so it can hold up to an open motor, it can hold up to a real aggressive brake pad, so it's gonna be a really good seller. Kate: Thanks Rex.
