This is part 1 of "Reggae Super Bash '94," a long-lost four hour concert of some of the best & most influential Reggae artists of all time, live in Tokyo, Japan in 1994. This raw footage has never been seen before! Reggae Super Bash '94 appears to have been an attempt to bring a large number of Reggae artists closer to their young, growing fanbase in Japan. Presented by the popular Jamaican JBC DJ & apparent Japanese-region Reggae liaison, Owen "OB" Brown, this very special concert joins some of the most influential artists in Reggae from the 1960's to the 1990's into one Tokyo, Japan date. The artists play through their hits and some have their own special, exclusive songs for this concert (like Josey Wales's Kung Fu Fighting), all played with the help of the backing band, the Riddim Kings. At the end of the concert, all of the artists come together for a very special, one-of-a-kind rendition of Alton Ellis's "Girl I've Got a Date." It is unknown what venue this was shot at & what day it took place. It appears that there was at least one other Reggae Super Bash that occurred a year or two before this one. (Do you have any additional information? Please comment below!) The venue taped the entire concert in unusually high quality making this some of the only clearly professional footage available of some of these artists. This concert was found on the original, abandoned, & dusty Betacam SP master tapes. Betacam SP was the professional brother of ED Betamax. Using the same tapes as standard ED Beta, Betacam SP was able to record very high quality component (Y/Pb/Pr) video. (However this recording appears to have been done from a composite source based on the rainbow banding.) It was very popular for on-location Electronic News Gathering (ENG) and for general television production that required portability. It was preceded by plain old (oxide) Betacam. Unfortunately, one of the original tapes was missing so there is an approximate 10-15 minute gap between part 1 and part 2... Fun fact: In 2016, the MC, Owen Brown, was presented with the Jamaican Order of Distinction (OD) for his contributions to Jamaican entertainment. Enjoy this very, very special concert with some of the greatest names in Reggae! #ReggaeSuperBash94 ________________________________________________ Chapters by song: 00:00:00 - Preshow 00:09:20 - Riddim Kings - Iron Lion Zion (Medley) 00:11:03 - Riddim Kings - Hello Mama Africa (Medley) 00:14:28 - Riddim Kings - War (Medley) 00:17:18 - Riddim Kings - Get Up, Stand Up (Medley) 00:19:15 - Riddim Kings - No More Trouble (Medley) 00:22:18 - The Melodians - Sweet Sensation 00:26:16 - The Melodians - You Don't Need Me 00:29:38 - The Melodians - I Will Get Along (Without You) 00:33:00 - The Melodians - Swing And Dine 00:36:24 - The Melodians - Everybody Bawling 00:39:43 - The Melodians - Last Train To Expo '67 00:43:37 - The Melodians - Down Here In Babylon 00:47:23 - The Melodians - It Comes And Goes 00:50:10 - The Melodians - Come on Little Girl 00:52:40 - The Melodians - I Had a Little Nut Tree 00:55:24 - The Melodians - Things You Say You Love 01:00:27 - The Melodians - Rivers Of Babylon 01:06:33 - Anthony Red Rose - Family Man 01:09:23 - Anthony Red Rose - Gangster 01:13:32 - Anthony Red Rose - Ganja Man 01:17:27 - Anthony Red Rose - Run Them Out 01:20:37 - Anthony Red Rose - Boom Boom Bye Bye 01:23:50 - Anthony Red Rose - Idlers 01:26:52 - Anthony Red Rose - Tempo 01:31:36 - Anthony Red Rose - Reminisce 01:36:07 - Josey Wales - La Lamba 01:38:55 - Josey Wales - Sweet Jamaica (Bob Marley Tribute) 01:42:33 - Josey Wales - Kung Fu Fighting 01:45:45 - Josey Wales - Bobo Dread 01:49:47 - Josey Wales - Cure For The Fever 01:52:22 - Josey Wales - Beg You Come Home 01:55:14 - Josey Wales - Cowboy Style 01:57:21 - Josey Wales - Undercover Lover (Segment) ________________________________________________ The tapes were played back using a Sony MSW-M2100 Betacam player and were specially edited for this YouTube presentation. ________________________________________________ Be sure to see part 2 here: • Alton Ellis, Mykal Rose - Reggae Super Bas... ________________________________________________ If you want to follow me for updates or want to help me purchase every single abandoned tape in the world, please click the link below: https://linktr.ee/OpWorkshop
