She rides on seven boars and possesses three heads and six arms. Marici was originated from the ancient India. She followed the introduction of Buddhism through China to reach Japan. She was believed to be the divinization of sunlight, which was formless and could not be captured, injured nor harmed. With these characteristics, she was the symbol of fortune and victory and the religious faith was spread among Sengoku shoguns, samurais and ninjas. In modern Japan, people who are born in the year of boar would consider her the guardian deity because of the boars she rides on. Wishing to receive the blessing of success, martial art practitioners, sport players or businessmen who hope to overcome difficulties and be led to the path of success etc. widen the believe of Marici.
