For those who grew up in East Africa, some places are edged in our memories for the good times we have had. Be it Oysterbay in Dar or Light House in Mombasa - we always end up comparing any spin-offs to the original. How many times we have found places calling themselves Forodhani (Zanzibar), Light House (Mombasa), Oysterbay (Dar) just to try and replicate the food but one thing they can never replicate is the emotions that these original landmarks arise whenever we think about them. The picnics, the delicious Mogo crisps, the makai with lemon and pilipili, the madafu, the view of the waves and the breeze from the ocean - these can not be reolicated. Earlier this month, I visited Nairobi "Light House" and the original Mombasa Light House!!!
