In November 2019, I set out to improve my Epiphone Hummingbird's tone. I scalloped the X braces and tone bars, to improve the response of the top. Immediately right after, I felt an improvement in the bass, reduction in the mids and highs. However, the tone still sounded very "metallic" or "tin-ish". Nonetheless, the tone should continue to improve months after, as the wood changes and the solid top opens up. Six months later, I took off a little more material from the X braces, but not as significant as during the first round of scalloping. I feel that there was a further improvement in the tone. It now sounds more warm, has more bass, and is more responsive. I dug up the clips from the old video and showed you a side by side comparison, "after" and "before". The strings I used are both D'Addarios Phosphor Bronze 12s. They are about 2 weeks old in both videos. I also tried to position the SM-57 microphone as close to the original video, from memory. Did you hear a difference in tone six months after?
