Rehabilitation of a dangerous dog Ella's episode: Guys, meet Ella. An 11 month old GSD with what I believe to be serious genetic fearful based aggression. Ella's owner brought her to me because she was lunging at everyone in the street with the intent of biting them. The last straw was her lunging at a police officer and very nearly getting a good bite on him. During Ella's assessment I had a gut feeling that this dog may be genetically pre disposed to being fearful. By the end of that session I had Ella walking to heel for me but not before she nearly got a number of 'proper' bites on me. I explained to her owners how to go about reassuring the dog in a way that will aid her to naturally develop a coping mechanism towards life's stresses but also warned them that I thought this dogs problems were too deep for the average pet owner to deal with. Long story short, Ella came back to me as her behaviour continued to worsen as they were really struggling to handle her full stop, let alone change their handling technique. Ella has been with me for 6 weeks now and has undergone an intense counter conditioning program.
