Here is Giovanni's message in full: Today is the start of Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week. This is a national campaign to help people to understand what life is like for people who have Down’s syndrome and to encourage society to become more inclusive in the way that they treat people with Down’s syndrome. I am proud to be an Ambassador for DanceSyndrome which is an inclusive dance charity that was founded by Jen Blackwell, a lady who has Down’s syndrome. Jen and her parents started the charity because it was so hard to find inclusive leadership opportunities in the dance world. Now, DanceSyndrome supports many people with and without learning disabilities to enjoy dance in a fully inclusive way. This year, the Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week campaign is called “With Us Not For Us” and this is about making sure that people with Down’s syndrome are included in the activities that they are involved with on every level. I’m proud to say that everything that DanceSyndrome does is co-produced and co-delivered by a person with a learning disability, which is exactly what this campaign is about. People with learning disabilities don’t just take part with DanceSyndrome, they are given opportunities to lead workshops, create choreography and perform together with people without disabilities in an inclusive way. It’s a great example of inclusion and I hope you will check out their work and support them with a donation if you can, so that they can continue this amazing work!
