#lawncare #reelmower #backyardgolf It's finally time for the first ever mow on our two backyard golf greens. The ultimate backyard lawn. The 007XL creeping bentgrass that I planted on the putting greens has filled in quickly after only being planted less than 2 months ago. I'll be using a Toro Greensmaster 1000 reel mower to cut the greens. Reel mowing allows for a very low cut of grass, and the reel when sharp, cuts the grass clean, to give the lawn a great after cut appearance. Mowing grass often will force the lawn to spread out and grow more dense. The lateral growth is what I'm hoping to have the Bent Grass do in hopes of filling in the grass on this backyard putting & chipping green. To build these backyard putting greens, I used a USGA rated rootzone sand mix. The USGA rootzone mix is made of special sand that allows the roots of the grass to grow easily and deeply into the golf green. The sand particles allow air to the root system and excess water will drain through the rootzone mix. The height of cut on a reel mower can be set with a height of cut gauge. Once the mowers cutting height is set, I make sure the reel is sharp enough to cut paper. Once the reel to bed knife contact is set, we're ready to mow.
