http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Apollonia, dedicated to the God, Apollo (duh...even I could figure that out), was founded by Greeks from Corinth in 588 B.C. and is one of the most important archaeological sights in Albania. It was a very rich and important city due to its location near the Adriatic Sea. An Archaeologist led the Outdoor Albania group around the most important sights along with explanations. Apollonia was eventually incorporated into the Roman Empire and became Julius Caesar's stronghold during the Civil War with Pompey. There is very little to actually see in Apollonia with the majority of the site still buried underground.
