👉 Manaslu4Kids.com 3 key aspects that made Chulu West unreachable for me this time: 1. First in the season I had to find a #route on a mountain I didn’t know and where the only route info I had was “more or less follow the ridge”. 2. Weather/conditions The night before the #summitpush it rained a lot, only after midnight it turned into snow. It was too early in the year to really trust snow bridges. The snow was sugary which made it hard to get a hold with the ice axe. I’m 95% sure the snow over the last #crevasse would have held, but: 3. Alone Any fall would have been a major risk of getting injured. I was alone on the entire mountain, above 5,600m, and for three days basically in a “0-mistake-zone”. Had only one of these factors have been different, I might have come to a different conclusion. While I was disappointed when I turned around, the more I descended the more contented I got about my decision to turn around at the right moment: When I felt I would go beyond what I can control.
