Today we're discussing the IWC Pilot's watch chronograph Top Gun Miramar. For 2016, the Top Gun Miramar receives a number of refinements, starting with the case. 2mm smaller, tighter and tauter in its proportion than its predecessor, the watch is now more aesthetically versatile and suitable for a broader range of wrists. The high tech, kiln-fired ceramic remains in a high polished finish ceramic almost indelible effectively renders the case as durable as sapphire crystal itself. Defiantly resisting scratches, scuffs, and discoloration for long wearing good looks. Inboard of the high tech material, a heritage inspired dial continues within the Miramar line. Designed to evoke early to mid 20th century IWC observers watch is designed for military applications. The dial has a rich tobacco base with a simulated patina across all indices, Arabic numerals, and hands. The watch evokes the look of a weathered and aged time piece, but with modern functionality. For 2016, the dial receives two important upgrades; a simplified date window at 3'oclock and a new mono counter at 12'oclock. The mono counter features concentric circular scales for both chronograph minutes and hours allowing the vintage inspired, bi-compacts, or twin register chronograph design to be paired with modern tri-register functionality, expressly hours, minutes, and seconds from the chronograph. All of the metallic hardware on the watch is of a subdued finish and this continues on the case back. The unmistakable homage to the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program that serves as the namesake for the Top Gun Miramar models. For 2016, the logo is tactically subdued in embossed metal on the case back. Likewise, the watch receives a tactically inspired textile embossed calfskin leather strap, featuring the look of military canvas, but with an embossed calfskin pattern, it has the refinement and the supple feel on the hand of calfskin. Featuring more conventional calfskin grain on it's reverse side, it's both a handsome, soft, comfortable, and durable material. That watch features an IWC manufacturer caliber 89361 fly back chronograph, automatic winding with IWC's Pellaton pawl based winding system. It energizes a superior 68 hour power reserve, far more than the industry standard of 42. The automatic winding watch also features a soft iron cage within the case to channel magnetic field lines around the movement to protect the hair spring from magnetization. This is useful in high power office environments, or around home entertainment systems that may create high levels of electromagnetic flux. The movement also features fly back chronograph functionality, such that when the reset trigger is pressed, the watch resets and restarts in a single motion. This is useful for aviation applications. The watch also features fundamental refinements such as hacking seconds, such that when you pull the crown you stop the balance, allowing precise synchronization to a mission timer or simply an atomic clock. Moreover, a quick set is available for the date, such that the crown can be pulled to a position, cycled, rapidly correcting the date if the watch should run down or encounter an irregular length month. The balance of the watch operates at 28800 rebrations per hour or eight beats perv second. A modern beat rate reinforced with a free sprung architecture that makes the watch more tolerant of shock and vibration. The screw down crown and screwed in case back endow the watch with six ATM or 60 meter water resistance.
