Seeing the misuse of 498A, various High Courts not only quashed the false FIRs but in their decisions even described a law like 498A as a weapon against the husband and his family, which women are continuously using for their greed.The purpose of bringing Section 498A was to protect a married woman from any kind of cruelty at the hands of her husband or in-laws. But for the last several years, this section is being used to settle scores and by threatening to extort money from the husband and his family. Various High Courts and recently the Supreme Court had also requested the Parliament to make necessary changes in this cruel law, but in the law passed by the Parliament and implemented from July 1, 2024, Section 498A was kept in the new law, due to which crores of husbands and their relatives will be affected and they are highly disappointed.
