In this Taiwan Travel Guide I want to show you the beautiful island country of Taiwan and tell you everything you need to know prior to arriving. Transportation, booking hotels, how to get around and most importantly, I will give you an overview of my 10 day travel itinerary that I followed during my adventures in Taiwan My trip began in Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan. On the very first day, I began with a food tour to better understand the cuisine, culture and the history of Taiwan. On the second day, once I got to know the city a bit more, I explored Taipei and its many charming neighborhoods -Xinyi, Da'an, Ximen and many many more. I found public transportation in Taipei and all of Taiwan to be extremely easy to use - the stations were very easy to navigate. Among few of the top tourist attractions, I recommend an early morning visit to the Elephant Mountain (象山) for some of the best views of Taipei skyline. Next, check out Taipei 101 (台北101), once the tallest building in the world! Afterwards, you can take the red metro line over to Chiang kai-Shek Memorial Hall (國立中正紀念堂). Plan to arrive prior to 9:00 to witness the changing of the guards ceremony. I also recommend you go and explore the nearby bustling neighborhood of Ximen (西門) and the historic Dihua Old Street (迪化街). One of the days, I decided to do a day trip to the nearby Yangmingshan National Park (陽明山國家公園). It is the most accessible of the 9 national parks in Taiwan and you can easily spend a couple of days here. I opted to combine few smaller hikes into one epic day of exploring. Some of the areas I recommend you visit are Xiaoyoukeng Furmahole (小油坑硫氣孔), Lengshuikeng Hot Springs (冷水坑溫泉浴室) and Qingtiangang Grasslands (擎天岗草原). After few days in the north of the country, I took the High Speed Rail to Taichung, where I would be exploring Sun Moon Lake, Yushan National Park and Alishan National Forest. On the first day, I drove an hour to Sun Moon Lake (日月潭) and rented an electric bicycle to explore one of Taiwan's most picturesque places. I biked the whole loop visiting some of the temples, overlooks and towns around its shore. The following day, I drove to Yushan National Park (玉山國家公園), home to the tallest peaks in Taiwan including Mount Jade. You can visit the Tataka Visitor Center and talk to the lovely staff about potential hikes you may be interested in. I recommend a hike to Linzhi Mountain which starts from the visitor center. If you are looking for something easier, check out Tefuye Historic Trail ( 特富耶历史步道). I spent the last day day in Central Taiwan taking the historic sunrise train to the top of Zhushan Peak! It was the best sunrise I have seen throughout my stays in Taiwan and totally worth waking up extra early for! After sunrise, get off at Chaoping Train Station and continue on a 2.5 mile Alishan Forest Loop to see some of the tallest Cypress Trees in Taiwan. The last few days of my adventures, I traveled over to the East Coast to a city called Hualien where the famous Taroko Gorge is located. This place has been greatly affected by the earthquakes that devastated Taiwan in 2024 so many of the trails may still be closed. I recommend you visit the National Park's website prior to making any plans. The last place I want to mention - this can also be a day trip from Taipei - is the coastal town of Jiufen. While most people come to Jiufen the see the famous A-Mei Teahouse and peruse through the cobblestone streets, many people miss out on the region's deep gold mining history. Visit the nearby town of Jinguashi or take bus 856 to Bitou Cape and hike along Taiwan's beautiful coast!
