The first section from LIXIN to Beijing Railway station opened in 1969, but not to the public until 1971. The line extended further west until PINGGUOYUAN Station in 1973. As the techniques were highly limited at that time, this section were built by open-cut method. In 1987, the section from the east of NANLISHILU to Beijing Railway Station were given to Line 2, such that Line 2 became the first loop-line subway in Beijing. Meanwhile, the new FUXINGMEN Station of Line 1 opened. In 1992, Line 1 extended downtown (east) to XIDAN. Then in 1999, the "FUBA Line (复八线)" from Tian'anmen West to SIHUI East opened. The older Line 1 and the FUBA Line finally cut through in 2000. BATONG Line was originally a distinct subway line in Beijing, that connects the east-end of downtown Beijing with further-east Tongzhou district. Opened in 2003, the line runs from SIHUI to TUQIAO. The two west-most stations of BATONG Line are transfer-available to Line 1, while between these two stations, the two subway lines run parallelly. Then, on 08/28/2021, Line 1 and the BATONG Line also cut through, forming a long, cardinal line that runs through the entire city from the very west to the very east. Since then, the line has both the oldest stations in the west and the newest stations in the east. The cut through of the two major lines made Line 1 obtains 7 models of trains. All the trains have 6 cars, and have 4 doors on each side of each car: DKZ4, manufactured in 1999 - 2001 by CRRC Changchun and Beijing Subway Rolling Stock. This type originally serves for Line 1, and is the last model that uses air-motived doors in Beijing Subway. SFM01 & SFM02 & SFM07: manufactured in 2003 by CRRC Sifang. These types originally serves for BATONG Line. SFM04 & SFM04A: manufactured in 2006 & 2011 by CRRC Sifang and Beijing Subway Rolling Stock. These types originally serves for Line 1, and replaces most older models. BDK06: manufactured by Beijing Subway Rolling Stock in 2020. This type originally serves for BATONG Line.
