This late-season Arizona elk hunt was one of the toughest and most rewarding hunts I’ve ever been a part of. After unexpectedly drawing a late rifle bull tag, I headed south for my first Arizona elk hunt knowing it was going to be a grind. Post-rut bulls, cold nights, quiet mountains, and miles of glassing tested every ounce of patience and perseverance. Late-season elk don’t give many opportunities. Bulls are worn down, spread out, and surviving—not screaming. Every day was about finding one small piece of the puzzle and trusting the process. Long sits behind the glass, covering country on foot, and staying mentally locked in when things felt slow eventually led to the moment every elk hunter lives for. This hunt wasn’t just about filling a tag—it was about adapting, pushing through doubt, and earning an opportunity when it finally came together. Public land. DIY. Late season. Arizona.
