In this edition of Favourite Cases, Kate Selway QC talks about undue influence in the case of Allcard v Skinner (1887) 36 Ch D 145. Kate says: " Allcard v Skinner is one of my favourites because it helped me to understand the breadth and adaptability of the equitable Doctrine of Undue Influence. It concerns a young woman who became a nun, made a will leaving all her property to Ms Skinner and divested herself of the greater part of her inherited fortune in favour of the sisterhood. Ms Allcard, however, later changed her mind and cut her ties with the sisterhood and belatedly asked for her money back, claiming she was under the influence of Ms Skinner." Favourite Cases is a Radcliffe Chambers project for August 2020, which takes a look at interesting and important chancery and commercial decisions. This video was recorded on 19 August 2020.
