Work Tuff Gear NOMAD Review. The Work Tuff Gear Nomad is a large 9inch fixed blade knife with a very interesting design that somewhat resembles some native instruments of the Hmong- it's not Hmong but resembles some blades. Made with Japanese SK 85 high carbon tool steel and an expertly ground convex edge, a very comfortable and grippy G10 set of scales plus the scales just look good as they sort of mimic the look of dark walnut in appearance. Make no mistake the WTG NOMAD is a knife for the wilderness and not your average camping/hiking knife unless that happens to be in the real wilderness. The blade design is such that one can easily cut fibrous/grassy material (making beds. thatching roofs etc), cut through vines and yet a good weight distribution for light chopping. I say light chopping not because the blade can not handle it, quite the contrary; however the weight distribution is away from the tip (that makes it easier to use the tip for good advantage). It's not an axe. The high grind angle of the WTG NOMAD permits it to be used for cutting dense objects without too much friction being developed and due to the shape of the grip it will also protect one's hands from getting "squashed" when cutting against flat objects. Whilst I didn't test this out in the tropics this time, my experience (with similar blades) tells me the design and especially the point of this blade would make it very easy to use on fish as well. At 9 inches, it's like a small parang. I found it was better suited to carrying on a pack (that's just for me). But one can turn the Tek lok and carry it horizontally ( not shown in the video) and this gives one that option here. I cut up very small things for food preparation (see blog) and was easily able to feather with the WTG NOMAD on hard and seasoned woods. I also cut up both raw meat and cooked chunks of meat with it and it wasn't a problems, because of the high angled grind allows for this even though it has a thick spine. The blade of the WTG NOMAD has been finished with an anti-reflective acid wash and comes with a well fitting kydex scabbard and quick release Tek-Lok like style belt clip. The design of the WTG NOMAD is from Zeke Menacho and expertly made by Victor at Work Tuff Gear. You can also see the WTG NOMAD it here on WTG's web site: https://www.worktuffgear.com/product-...
