Georg Jensen was born on August 31, 1866 in Radvaad, Denmark. His father worked as a grinder in a knife factory in Radvaad. Georg worked with his gather at an early age in the factory. Georg dedicated a lot of time in the factory with his father with little attention to school. When he was fourteen his family moved to Copenhagen where Georg was able to apprentice with a goldsmith after seeing his ability to design and sculpt. Georg gained admission to the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen as a sculpture student. At the age of 25 Georg graduated with having some of his work exhibited in Charlottenborg Annual Exhibit. After a dark time of losing his wife and struggling as sculpture Georg received some help from his long friend Johan Rohde. Jensen and his former partner, Christian Petersen, had a piece, "the Maid on the Jar", showcased in the Danish Pavilion at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris. They also had success selling and exhibiting their works independently at the World's Fair. After his success in Paris Jensen was given a travel grant to tour art centers in France and Italy. This trip gave Jensen a new outlook at the world of art and production that he we use upon returning to Copenhagen. In 1904 Jenson decided to open his own shop in the heart of Copenhagen. At his shop he produced house wares, flatware, and jewelry. Georg passed away in 1935 at the age of 69.
