Sow Swiss Chard in small pots for planting out later in the allotment. Due to the very cold weather we have been having in May we are starting this off in pots to germinate in the greenhouse, if it warms up we can leave it out. The soil temperature is still to cold when we are doing this to sow it direct. Swiss Chard likes good soil with plenty of moisture. Tasting like spinach and although it does cook down it never disappears to the extent that spinach does. It has the added advantage that you can eat the stalk as a separate vegetable. This plant does not go to seed as readily as spinach if the weather is dry although it will benefit from plenty of watering in dry weather. When we get to the eating stage we will show you how you just use the outer leaves each time leaving the plant to keep growing a d producing.
