Kashmiri Mohalla is one of the oldest mohallas of Lucknow. It came into existence around 1775 when the ruler of Awadh (Oudh) Nawab Asaf-ud-Daulla shifted his seat of power from Faizabad to Lucknow in 1775 and along with him came his wazirs and all his courtiers. Many among them were Kashmiri Pandits. All pandits who migrated from Kashmir at that point of time in search for greener pastures, came to Lucknow then to find a job in the court of nawab Asaf-ud-Daulla. They settled down in this locality which is near Nakkhas, and thus due to the presence of a large number of Kashmiri Pandits, this mohalla got its name as "Kashmiri Mohalla" as most of the houses in this area that included a large part of Katra Bizen Beg and Angoori Bagh, belonged to Kashmiri Pandits. Still a few Kashmiri Pandit families live here.
