Jillian Hastings Ward is a patient advocate based in the UK. As a conference speaker, facilitator, writer and co-author of a book of poetry about parenting someone with a rare genetic disorder, she has presented rare disease patient perspectives around the world. In our video interview, she highlights key developments and ongoing challenges in personalised medicine, with a focus on patient involvement and equitable access to genomic and personalised treatments. She believes that patient involvement should be genuine and impactful, rather than merely symbolic or procedural. Those with rare diseases, cancer and other conditions that could benefit from personalised medicine must be given genuine opportunities to influence the development and delivery of these medical advances.
