We try to defeat Winter on the Appalachian Trail by using some specific techniques and gear to stay drier, warmer and overall more comfortable. It's a work in progress but hopefully this helps someone. Share your techniques in the Comments!! 1. We like rain mitts, either on their own, or over wool mittens (Mountain Laurel Designs) https://mountainlaureldesigns.com/pro... 4. Disposable hand warmers inside mittens. Fast water filters reduce the time we are loosing heat from our hand while squeezing them.  We like collapsible bottles that can stay attached so we can keep them in a pocket/quilt without leaking (HydraPak and BeFree) https://hydrapak.com/products/42mm-fi... https://www.katadyngroup.com/us/en/80... 6.
