Jasper was just five years old when he was diagnosed with a type of brain tumour called medulloblastoma. In 2016, he had radiotherapy followed by eight cycles of chemotherapy. Thankfully, after that difficult year, he’s now finished treatment and is cancer free. But it has come at a price. Jasper’s treatment caused a lot of serious side effects, some of which might affect him for the rest of his life. With more research, we aim to help more children like Jasper survive cancer, and do so with fewer long-term side effects. That’s why, this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re delighted to announce that we’re funding the Cancer Research UK Children’s Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence. The centre, a joint collaboration between The University of Cambridge and The Institute of Cancer Research, London, will be a hub of expertise for children’s brain tumour research, and aims to transform the way treatments for these tumours are developed.
