“The Pulse of Pain” is a new and deeply emotional artwork by Mykola Kabluka, executed in collaboration with Expolight Arts. The piece memorializes a train carriage that once carried people home, to loved ones, to new beginnings. On January 27, 2026, the Chop-Barvinkove route became a target of enemy drones, taking six lives. For the artist, working with light in this space was an attempt to capture the moment when the world freezes under impact. In collaboration with Ukrzaliznytsia and Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, we created a memorial artwork for the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion, where light reveals the pulsating wounds of this tragedy. Museum-grade lighting highlights the iron scars, deformed surfaces, and impact marks, emphasizing elements that hold the memory of the event and the pain endured by the Ukrainian people. The contrast between the cold, fractured, almost lunar light outside—which evokes the stillness of death—and the warm, pulsating red light inside intensifies the space’s dramaturgy, creating a powerful emotional experience.
