http://boginjr.com/electronics/hv/mic... A small mains powered VTTC, the tube used here is PL500, manufacturer RFT (East German production). The anode supply is a modified two-stage multiplier. There's also a cathode interrupter, or "staccatto" with a SCR/thyristor and it's tunable with the potentiometer on the main panel, also there's some fusing to protect the voltage multiplier and the cathode. As for the coils: there are 16 turns on the primary, 10 on the feedback and the secondary coil is 11cm long with a diameter of 5cm. Without the cathode interrupter, the sparks free-to-air are 3.5-4cm long, 4.5cm to a grounded object. And with the staccatto circuit they're 6-7cm ;-)
