This is a brief comparison between the DSM & Humboldt Black Clouds and the Diezel Herbert pedal. I start by comparing a general tone I think is close on both pedals and then go back and forth changing knobs on each so you can hear what each knob does. I finish by showing how they sound stacked together. The Black Clouds does seem to pick up where the Silver Linings leaves off in terms of gain. The Black Clouds is very similar to the Silver Linings' hard clipping mode, but with a tad more gain and also tighter and more focused. I do feel the extra tightness causes it to lose a lot of the dynamics and touch- sensitiveness the Silver Linings has, especially when you dial back the gain and try for a cleaner sound. The Black Clouds can get somewhat clean, but the clean it gets to is very dry in my opinion, where the Silver Linings can get a nice, dynamic edge-of-breakup on its soft clipping mode. The Silver Linings does not get very heavy, though - the heaviest I'm able to get it to sound is to put it on hard clipping and in the Mid Boost mode, and to ironically turn the mids knob down. I think that gets pretty close to early Black Sabbath-style metal or maybe doom. I used my Epiphone ES-339 Pro on the bridge pickup with a White Fang pick, played through an Orange CR60 on the clean channel. I recorded it with my Samsung Note 10+. I don't do this often so I haven't upgraded my setup, but hopefully this can still prove helpful since I haven't seen many videos of the Black Clouds.
