🧪 Quick Demo: How to Check the Concentration of a Herbal Tincture Using the Evaporation Method We previously made a coriander seed extract using the Extract Maker app for guidance. The app predicted a concentration of about 23 mg/mL, but we hadn't checked it. In this video, we show how you can quickly check the amount of dissolved solids in a tincture, which may serve as an indirect indicator of tincture quality. Noting that this measure does not necessarily represent the potency, it is still a good way to get a rough estimate. We found that the tincture contained about 20 mg/mL of dissolved coriander solids, which was very close to the predicted 23 mg/mL, highlighting the app's accuracy for coriander seed powder. A note about the calculation shown on paper: the three masses (9.06, 9.05, and 9.07 g) were not used in the calculation - they represent mass measurements for one 10-mL batch of the tincture. We added 4 x 10 mL, accurately measured, evaporated it, and determined the difference in the initial and final mass. The concentration is then simply c = m / V = 800 mg / 40 mL = 20 mg / mL (rough estimate, with error of about +/- 3 mg/mL). If you made the tincture yourself and still have leftover alcohol from the same batch used to make the tincture, you can simply measure 40-50 mL of the tincture and alcohol (separately) and weigh them individually to find the mass difference. 🌐 Extract Maker Website: https://extractmaker.carrd.co/ 📲 Extract Maker at Google Play: https://bit.ly/ExtractMaker 📲 Learn more about plants, plant extracts, and the latest research by downloading our main app, Plants Research Pro, from Google Play: https://bit.ly/4cdwoYe Shop for tools used in our videos: https://tr.ee/cJoJzv As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. 📌 Like, subscribe, and share for more DIY herbal recipes and tips! 🐾 Image Credits: Aurora Borealis by Kristian Pikner. #Herbal #DIY #Tincture #HerbalExtracts
