In these times where we are constantly told or shown who and how you should be, we often forget who we truly are. Who is the person beneath all those layers, filters, and stories online? Who is the person you are looking at in the mirror? And do we still dare to show our truest selves? Do we know what self love is? Are we willing to strip down our walls for others? How can we still connect, in the most naked version of ourselves? Let’s talk about the most magical creatures on this planet: breasts. We don’t get to hear about them often, beside the shadow banning on social media, the fact that we need to use a hashtag called #freethenipple and that there is still so much prudishness about the most common, wonderful and natural female feature. Roeltje started to photograph these hidden, magical parts of us, and started to strip down our body images. While doing that, she was breaking down walls that were build up so carefully throughout the years. While showing your breasts is almost an illegal act right? The term In Lak'ech is a greeting of the ancient Maya, which means 'I am the other you’/ 'we are all one'. Everything is connected and we are all connected. Roeltje was born in the Netherlands in 1992. She has always been fascinated with visual art. Capturing and creating feelings. After her journey in Tibet, where she captured her sense of the journey through photography, she knew that this was the universal language where she was understood. Expressing the unknown, and indescribable feelings in images. As a real people person, she mainly focuses on portrait photography. Working together and capturing the unique beauty of an individual. Connecting with the other, discovering intimacy, making vulnerability powerful and creating. Her photography can be described as sincere, intimate, vulnerable, quirky and raw. Working from intuition, with a touch of glamour. There’s magic in every moment and you can only capture it by following your gut feeling.
