Located in the county of East Sussex, and around 15 miles northeast of Brighton, is the town of Uckfield. Geographically, Uckfield is situated on the southern boundary of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, adjacent to the River Uck. The first recorded reference to a settlement here dates back to the 13th century. Historic industries included agriculture and iron. At the heart of the town is the Holy Cross Church. This dates back to the 14th century, although it was rebuilt in 1839. Another architectural highlight is Bridge Cottage. First seen just before the 1-minute mark, this timber-framed building dates from circa 1436. It narrowly escaped demolition in 1983, and has since undergone restoration work. Today it functions as a venue for exhibitions, weddings and community events. In 1858 the railway arrived in Uckfield courtesy of the Lewes and Uckfield Railway Company, who were later purchased by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway in 1864. The present station dates from 1991, replacing the original station in order to remove the need for a level crossing which had been causing disruption on the busy main road. It is the terminus of the Uckfield Branch of the Oxted Line. Trains to and from London typically take around 75-80 minutes. 👇 SUBSCRIBE TO 4K EXPLORER FOR NEW VIDEOS EVERY WEEK 👇 https://www.youtube.com/4KExplorer?su...
