In this video we take a ride on board Long Island Railroad Far Rockaway Branch train #8714 en route to Far Rockaway from New York Penn Station. The Far Rockaway Branch is a heavy rail route operated by Long Island Railroad and runs from New York Penn Station or Grand Central stations in Manhattan, as well as Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn to Far Rockaway in Queens. The Far Rockaway Branch starts at Valley Stream station, where it diverges from the Montauk Branch. The tracks travel south and southwest, where the train would eventually head back into NYC. The Far Rockaway Branch is one of two LIRR services with an inbound & an outbound destination in NYC; the other being the City Terminal Zone. While the Far Rockaway Branch does enter Nassau county, the City Terminal Zone does not, as its purpose is to shuttle people between Brooklyn and Queens.
