Cars and property were damaged, missiles were thrown and scuffles broke out as trouble erupted on south Manchester's Curry Mile last night. It followed what started as a peaceful demonstration about the conflict in Syria between government troops and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). It began 'largely peacefully' as it headed into Manchester city centre but it ended in violence and vandalism when it made its way to Wilmslow Road in Rusholme, known as the Curry Mile. It became hostile when a 'large group of protesters' then 'set about damaging property and vehicles, before throwing items at officers', according to Greater Manchester Police. Staff inside the A&A pharmacy reported people with Kurdish flags over their shoulders. CCTV footage, taken just after 8pm, showed a crowd gathering on the road as cars tried to navigate the throng. People could be seen running across the main road while others were captured waving and holding flags amid the protest.
