Hello and welcome! In this video we are going to explain to you how to perform the postoperative cares after an ultrasonic rhinoplasty surgery with Dr. Candau. The day after surgery you should perform the first cure. This will begin with the removal of the remains of mucus and blood clots from the base of the nose. To do this, use an ear swab impregnated with hydrogen peroxide, and insert it into each nostril until the cotton is no longer visible. Use turning movements to the right and left to sweep the debris you can find over the stitches. Also clean the remains of the central stitches of the nose. Next, soak another swab in a disinfectant type Chlorhexidine or similar, and carry out the same movements in each nostril and in the sutures in the center of the nose. Remember that the internal inflammation of the nose can take weeks or months to disappear, and you will need frequent washes with a saline spray during the first 4 to 6 months. The stitches will be removed after 7 days, except for nasal alotomies, which will be removed after 14 days. You will have to perform the cures for at least 4 more days after the removal of stitches. If you cannot go to have Dr. Candau's team remove the stitches, tell the healthcare staff to remove them, that are simple 6 0 nylon sutures, usually about 12 to 15 stitches in the columella area, and about 2 to 3 points in the marginal incisions inside each nostril. The thermoplastic splint must remain in place for at least 1 week. It may be necessary to keep it on for longer if the swelling of the nasal soft tissues is greater than expected. It should only be removed by experienced personnel. If you cannot get it to be removed by Dr. Candau's team, begin moistening the splint once a day during bathing. In this way, the splint will come off little by little, and after about 5 to 7 days it will come off spontaneously. During the first 6 to 8 months, the nose may be asymmetrically swollen. In this way, you may notice irregularities on the back, generalized inflammation, increased nasal length, or deviations of the nasal axis or the tip. This is a normal phenomenon, and you don't need to worry about it. The final results of a rhinoplasty cannot be assessed until one year after surgery.
