Table of Tales The Crooked Crown | PSVR Review | A Table Top RPG

An amazing D&D like PSVR game that shouldn't be missed, I really hope the franchise continues by exploring different genres of table top games. Hope to see it ported to PC VR and the quest too. It really shouldn't be missed! If you rather read the review: Table of tales: the crooked crown is an absolutely fantastic table top virtual reality title that gives the player tons of choice and a captivating narrative to follow its easily entering my VR Essentials list but do note as of right now this is a Playstation VR exclusive now lets dive into this review beginning with objective and gameplay Table of tales: the crooked crown offers two game modes a story campaign and a local multiplayer mode. It all takes place in an attic where you stumble upon a very unique table that comes to life, soon after you get acquainted with a crow that narrates your journey through the table top experience. The story itself without spoiling to much is one of mystery and is very well done and interesting. The local multiplayer has up to 3 players on the tv while one player in VR behaves as a dungeon keeper and controls the monsters. The gameplay is very easy to understand and simple to play, it revolves around a turn-based system where each character has a specific amount points to preform actions such as moving, skill checks, and using abilities. The game uses the Playstation Move controller as a wand of sorts that can then be used to interact with the board pieces and cards, the wand itself can extended if you rather player from a laid back position so you dont have to lean in and out during long play sessions. Next up lets talk features and content Table of tales: the crooked crown has a fully narrated story but is all handled by a single person voicing the story, your choices, and each character but thankfully the actress behind the voice did an amazing job at making it feel engaging and interesting throughout. The story also offers a certain amount of replay-ability through giving player choice in key moments during the story and certainly justifies another play-through if not more. Player choice in this title feels significant and has repercussions on your play-though for both story and gameplay. The local multiplayer mode offers up to 4 players, 3 on the tv screen and 1 in VR. The game play itself remains the same just with the vr player controlling the dungeon, it serves as a neat addition to the game. Now lets move onto visuals and immersion Visually table of tales: the crooked crown is great and the animation of the table top game itself is captivating and very entertaining to watch as it transforms depending on where the story takes you as each and every environment of the game is stylized differently. In terms of immersion its a great table top experience that really nails that over all feel. If anything it really makes me hopeful they continue this series and make different genre of table top games of various genres. To conclude Table of Tales: The Crooked Crown is an absolutely fantastic table top experience built for virtual reality. One that really puts emphasis on player choice and offers a great turn based tactical rpg experience. Watching the way the table animates and comes to life is both entertaining and engaging. The narration while done by a single character is done very well as is the gameplay and its difficulty curve.
