Minneh Shuli was born and raised in Nakuru, where she is the firstborn in her family. Unfortunately, her childhood was very difficult. Her parents struggled with alcoholism, and after work they would often go drinking and end up fighting in front of their children. Because of neglect and hunger, Minneh eventually dropped out of school. When she was about 16 years old, she went to stay with a friend in Nakuru who promised her a job with good pay. At first, Minneh was hopeful—her friend gave her clothes and assured her she would explain the kind of work later. The next morning, however, her friend revealed that she was earning money by selling her body, and she intended to teach Minneh to do the same. One evening, her friend returned home with a man. Minneh thought he was just a visitor, but her friend explained that he had come for Minneh and encouraged her to be intimate with him. Feeling pressured and vulnerable, Minneh was exploited. That marked the beginning of a painful chapter in her life. Afterward, her friend began taking Minneh out at night to meet clients. The first time, Minneh was paid 1000 shillings, but when they returned home her friend insisted she use the money for household shopping. Not realizing she was being taken advantage of, Minneh handed over the payment. Eventually, she moved out and went to live with three other girls. Later, she was introduced to a woman who arranged clients for young girls in exchange for money. The clients would pay the woman first and then spend time with the girls. Minneh recalls one encounter where she tried to resist a client’s demands, but he ignored her pleas. Experiences like these left her deeply hurt and disillusioned. In this episode, Minneh shares her story of how, at a very young age, she was drawn into sleeping with men in exchange for money—driven by the need to provide for her siblings after being abandoned by her parents, who were consumed by alcoholism.
