Doctors at Shanghai Changzheng Hospital in June saved a man whose neck was broken so badly it was considered almost certain death. The accident, caused by a mechanical arm, left his cervical spine shifted 33 millimeters, crushing nerves, paralyzing him and even stopping his heart. For three hours, surgeons cleared heavy bleeding, untangled twisted tissue and carefully set the bones back in place. To keep the cervical spine steady, they added a small extra steel plate, like a “satellite” alongside the usual fixations for extra support, the first time worldwide. Two months on, the patient is now off the ventilator after he was transferred back to his hometown hospital for rehabilitation and has started sitting training. Doctors in Shanghai still call weekly to guide his recovery. __________________ ShanghaiEye focuses on producing top-quality contents. Nobody knows SHANGHAI better than us.
