The Source of Wu Tan’s Baji Jian: (*此趟使用1.5KG重劍) - When Grandmaster Liu Yun-Qiao was 18, he followed his master, the God of Spear - Li Shu-Wen around Shandong Province visited martial artists to “test” his Kung Fu. They stayed in Liu’s martial brothers, General Chang Xiang-Wu and General Li Jing-Lin’s military base. Chang Xiang-Wu and Li Jing-Lin were both Li Shu-Wen’s disciples and both were top swordsmen of China at the time. Li Shu-Wen assigned the little brother Liu to learn the art of sword from the elder brothers. During the learning time, Li thought the sword techniques that Chang was teaching Liu was too “fancy” and impractical. He then challenged Chang to a sword dual. Although Li was not a swordsman, but by applying his god-like grand spear fajin and techniques into the sword in his hand. No matter how Chang tried, Li was able to made Chang’s sword dropped off his hand. Chang was amazed by Li’s sword techniques and asked Li for the name of the sword style that Li used. Li laughed and joked “this is Baji Jian!” (Which of course was made up) Grandmaster Liu then modified the Kuen Wu Sword form that he learned from his elder brothers, applied Bajiquan’s fajin into the formed and called it “Kuen Wu Sword 2nd Route”, AKA “Baji Jian”. (*performed with 1.5kg Steel Sword)
